The Order That Actually Matters, and What It Means for What You Buy
Detailing has a real sequence, and getting it wrong doesn't just give a worse result, it can undo work you already did.
Wheels and tires first. They're the dirtiest part of the car. Clean them before you touch the paint, or you risk splashing brake dust and grime onto panels you just washed.
Scratch repair before wax, never after. This is the one that actually changes what you should buy.
Wax and other protectants seal whatever is underneath them. Apply wax over a scratch or swirl mark, and you're not fixing it, you're sealing it in.
If your car has any visible scratches or swirl marks, that's a reason to buy scratch repair and wax together, not wax alone and scratch repair "later."
Buying them separately, in the wrong order, means redoing the wax step once you finally address the scratch.
Glass last, interior whenever works. Clean glass at the end of the exterior work, not the middle, so overspray from other products doesn't land back on windows you already finished.
Interior cleaning can happen before or after the exterior. Both work. What doesn't work is starting it and stopping halfway.
How Often You'll Actually Need to Reorder
This is worth knowing before you buy, since it changes whether a single bottle or a bundle makes more sense.
A basic wash is something most people do every one to two weeks.
A full interior and exterior detail, the kind that uses most of the categories here at once, typically happens every one to three months, depending on how much you drive and whether the car sits outside or under cover.
If you're buying shampoo for regular washing, a single bottle bought occasionally is fine.
If you're planning a fuller detail, buying wax, scratch repair, and cleaning tools together in one order makes more sense than restocking one item at a time.
